The ULTIMATE image

I've learnt a lot of useful information from business class, including the art of selling myself (for lack of a better term) to clients and advertising my work correctly so I have a better chance at being hired.

Along with this blog and my personal portfolio website I was also told to make an ultimate image, sort of like a really cool movie poster that advertises me as an artist and person, so when I started work on it I knew I had to make it very bright, fun and just as geeky as me.

So, what better way to do that than draw myself posed like Link on the cover of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, right?

Of course I'm brandishing my weapon of choice (my Bamboo tablet and tablet pen) while surrounded by some of my favourite characters I've come up with while at university studying animation. Epic, right?

Anyway, once I'd sketched out the initial sketch I sketched it out again like I usually do for my bigger pictures, just so I could then do the lineart nicely.

And then of course came the colouring part. This was easy enough to do as I'd already made colouring sheets for all of these characters in the past so I just had to use those. I also decided to keep it flat-coloured without any shading so it'd look more cartoony and simple (a reflection of my usual style basically).

Almost there! It took me a while to finally settle on a background, but in the end I just ended up going with the same colour scheme as Skyward Sword's box art because it really suited the Legend of Zelda vibe. I added a few shadows too to give the characters a bit more presence and weight and of course added a bit of flare to my weapon.
